An excerpt from a newsletter article written by Barbara for the 25th Anniversary of the Edmonton Autism Society (Fall 1996):
"Most of the readers of the newsletter are parents who have a child or children with autism, as I do. This alliance has been chosen by all of us because of two things: our duty to our children with autism and our duty to each other.
Our duty to our children is to love and parent them, to keep them safe, to help them grow and learn. Our duty to each other is to share information, respect and support each other, and work together so that our combined knowledge and talents become greater than one family alone. Autism Society Alberta and its four branches are the embodiment of that duty.
All of the people who work together across the province started because of their love for their children and their realization that together they could have a significant impact. None of them came fully equipped with all the skills to lobby politicians, keep financial records, organize conferences, and counsel other parents or to locate speakers. They have learned from and with each other.
Remarkable things have happened through the combined action of parents..."
Especially with such leadership
Thank you, Barbara.
